Small Winemakers

The Small Winemakers Centre was somewhere we had to stop at when we found out about it. True to expectation here we found some fantastic wines. It was in a nice little setting and is basically a cellar door but for a number of smaller producers.

We tasted 8 wines from a range of providers including Thomas Wines, Silkman and The Little Wine Company. All the wines we tasted scored very good. It was a difficult choice to pick a favourite at this tasting and we tasted across Tempranillo, Shiraz, Gewurztraminer and Semillon grape varieties. In the end we had to make a decision and we opted for the Silkman Shiraz (80%) Pinot Noir (20%) 2013. It was a lovely blend with easy drinking and a long finish.

Ivanhoe

Ivanhoe Wines is a medium sized producer in the Hunter Valley. We dropped in to do some tasting at the cellar door. Our favourite wine here was the Chambourcin sparkling.

Briar Ridge

Briar Ridge came up on our radar as we noticed winemaker, Gwyn Olsen, had been receiving some attention and awards recently. We spent some time at the cellar door tasting and our favourite wine was the Semillon Dairy Hill Single Vineyard 2014.

Audrey Wilkinson

The Audrey Wilkinson cellar door has fantastic 360 degrees views. We had some lovely Semillon here and the Vin de Vie was also very good. We also had an encounter with a Kangaroo who bounced off before we could get a close up photo.

Our favourite wine though was the  Semillon The Ridge 2014.
